Kern County Network for Children
Champions for Kern's Kids
The State Department of Social Services has developed a system of quality assurance in accordance with Assembly Bill 636 to assist in improving Child Welfare Services programs statewide. As part of this process, the Department of Human Services (DHS) is required to conduct a Self Assessment. The Self Assessment is not to be completed by the agency itself, but by a committee whose members have been designated by the State Department of Social Services. On February 20, 2004, a group was assembled and designated as the Champions for Kern’s Kids. This group is made up of community leaders and partner agencies who will oversee the implementation of AB 636 as well as the Child Welfare Services Redesign. The group will meet quarterly to monitor the progress of a core team who will actually be completing the County Self-Assessment.
The first meeting of the core team members will be held on March 5, 2004. This meeting will serve as an introduction to the AB 636 process. DHS will be leading this process but will be depending on the input from this core group to assist us in improving the Child Welfare System for the benefit of our community at large. The Department of Human Services is looking forward to partnering with other agencies, community based organizations and community leaders in our effort to share in the responsibility of caring for our most vulnerable citizens, the children of Kern County.
