Larry Reider has worked in Kern County education for more than 30 years, serving as teacher, principal and school district superintendent. He joined the county superintendent's office in 1984 and became Superintendent of schools on September 1, 1999. Reider earned an undergraduate degree from Central Washington University and later earned master's and doctoral degrees. Community service is important to Reider, who has served on numerous committees for various organizations including the Downtown Business and Property Owner's Association and as a member of the Rotary Club of Bakersfield. He has been a member of the Kern Schools Federal Credit Union Board since 1984, where his assignments have included board chairman.Agency Description
The Kern County Superintendent of Schools Office is a service agency that provides fiscal, operational, staff development, legal, insurance and instructional services to school districts within and outside Kern County. Direct instructional services are provided by the office to children with disabilities and at-risk students, including those who have been expelled, are on probation or are incarcerated in juvenile detention facilities."The power of collaboration and the Kern County Network for Children lies in the agencies that provide different services and collectively focus on community and neighborhood issues. They can share information and resources to collectively address problems. This collaboration allows our community to tackle and solve problems, rather than treat symptoms."
