New Probation Department Resource Facility
The Kern County Probation Department has opened a new Resource Facility at 500 Baker St. in East Bakersfield. The facility was officially opened on November 28, 2001. The staff in the building include Probation Officers, Kern County Sheriff's Deputies, mental health case managers with Kern County Mental Health and Desert Counseling, and family advocates through the East Bakersfield, Oildale and 34th Street Collaboratives. It is a resource center for three specific grant funded programs:
- Early Intervention Program (EIP) The Early Intervention Program focuses on high risk youth who are in elementary or junior high and who have been referred for problems, but who have not yet entered the formal justice system. Services will be provided to the child and the family to attempt to ameliorate the problems and prevent further law enforcement or school referrals. EIP services are available in East Bakersfield, Oildale, and 34th Street areas.
- The Repeat Offender Prevention Program (ROPP)
The Repeat Offender Prevention Program focuses on youth who are first time offenders and who are identified as being at high risk to re-offend without intensive intervention. Again, services are provided to both the child and the family. ROPP services are provided throughout the Metro Bakersfield area as well as in the North County communities of Shafter, Wasco, McFarland, and Delano.
- Gang Intervention and Suppression Team (GISP) The Gang Intervention and Suppression Team involves Probation Officers and Sheriff Deputies working together to supervise and monitor behavior of identified gang members who are on Juvenile Probation. GIST provides services in the East and Southeast areas of Bakersfield.
