KCNC's Leadership Development Training Program
KCNC's Leadership Development Program originated in 1997 out of a desire to help those already in leadership positions in their neighborhoods or their organizations gain the skills to improve our communities. The focus of the program is on training and nurturing natural leaders in communities where they are already engaged in local collaborative groups and community mobilization efforts. The Leadership Development Program is a six-month training series that offers a wide range and variety of classes designed to enhance the leadership skills of participants as well as expose them to local community issues. The program offers thirty-six (36) hours of instruction time in nine (9) subject areas including:
- Public Speaking
- Time Management
- Legislative Advocacy
- Strategic Planning
- Conflict Resolution
- Community Mobilization
- Resource Development
- Media/Marketing
- Effective Community Meetings

- Eustolia Diaz is with the Lost Hills Union School District and is a Coordinator for the Lost Hills Collaborative.
- Michelle Donnelly is an Intensive Home Visitor with Kernville Union School District.
- Shirley Floyd is an Outreach Specialist for Blue Cross of California.
- Nora Garza works with Clinica Sierra Vista as an Administrative Assistant II.
- Mary Gattoni is a Case Manager with College Community Services.
- Katrina Haughton is a Program Assistant for Clinica Sierra Vista.
- Barry Hill is the Director of Programs for the Boys and Girls Club of Bakersfield.
- Angela Johns with the Kern County Superintendent of Schools office is the Local Coordinator for the Bakersfield AmeriCorps team.
- Sandy Koenig works with the Taft City School District as the Community Resource Coordinator for the Taft Collaborative.
- Mauro Laris is a Project Director with the Mexican American Opportunity Foundation.
- Jan Mazzone is Lead Advocate for the Kernville Union School District Children and Families Family Resource Center.
- Reina McDaniels is a Prevention Supervisor for Desert Counseling Clinic.
- Brian Mendiburu is the Director of Program Services for the Boys and Girls Club of Bakersfield.
- Javier Parra is a Team Leader/Mentor for the Bakersfield Central Valley Communities for Children AmeriCorps Program.
- Bill Phelps is the AFLP/Cal-Learn Program Coordinator for Clinica Sierra Vista.
- Lydia Rodgers is a Job Developer with Employers Training Resource.
- Stephanie Rodriguez is a Sr. Job Coach for the Mexican American Opportunity Foundation.
- Tammi Tilford works with the District Attorney’s office in the Family Support Division as a Family Support Officer/Outreach Coordinator.
- Gina Valdez is a Team Leader/Mentor for the Delano Central Valley Communities for Children AmeriCorps Program.
- Elizabeth Velaseo works for the Delano Joint Union High School District as the Delano Local Coordinator for the Central Valley Communities for Children AmeriCorps Program.
