GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

THE TOP TEN TEAM IS COMMITTED TO SPEND THE TIME AND EFFORT NECESSARY TO DEVELOP AND EXECUTE A SUCCESSFUL ORATORICAL CONTEST ACTIVITY FOR CHILDREN IN OUR COMMUNITY.

To accomplish our goals and objectives we will team up with like minded community partners to identify, recruit, teach, inspire, mentor and encourage 12-16 yr old students to participate and excel in an oratorical contest.

We will partner with Optimist International Club.

Top ten members will attempt work to increase the leadership skills, self esteem, public speaking ability and self confidence of the students.

During contest preparation the students will be mentored and given individual guidance to foster a professional personal appearance, short and long term goal setting, teamwork and critical thinking.

The students will prepare a 4-5 minute oral presentation on the topic “Why me, Why not?” This is an annual competition sponsored by Optimist International.

Students will have an opportunity to advance through local, regional, and international competitions, and have a chance to win a part of $150,000 in total scholarships, provided by Optimist International.

All students will receive a certificate of participation and be given personal recognition. There will be separate categories for male and female participants.

Each student will be given individual mentoring by a Top Ten team member, as well as group instruction, and practice on public speaking skills.

All participating students will be encouraged to have fun and use their acquired knowledge to mentor a student in next year’s competition.
