Community Agency Trainings/Events
Compassion Christian Center is hosting a Summer Program called the Summer Algebra Institute. The Summer Program will take place at 1030 4th Street, starting June 23rd, 2008 to August 1, 2008. The focus is African American 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students. Applications are currently being accepted. Application deadline is May 14, 2008. The curriculum promises to provide information on African and African American History, in addition to math skills and techniques for Algebra I. Please call Amy E. Kern County GIS Task Force (KCNC)
During each meeting we showcase a family service agency or organization currently using GIS tools in their program planning and decision making. We will also discuss on-going issues and tools (access to data, confidentiality, beginning GIS work, etc.) and explore GIS service possibilities for Kern County.

Child Passenger Safety Training
(June 24 - 28, 2008)
This training is designed to educate individuals to become Child Passenger Safety Technicians. Topics covered include: the need for child passenger safety programs, relevant federal legislation and safety standards, crash dynamics, vehicle occupant protection systems, selection and use of child restraint systems, correct installation of child restraints, misuse and compatibility issues, safety in other vehicle, organizing and coordinating a child seat checkup event, other occupant protection programs, and other considerations related to child passenger safety. At the end of 5-Day Training, the participant should be able to:

- Utilize appropriate resources to retrieve information related to child passenger safety.
- Respond appropriately to issues related to the role of Child Passenger Safety Technicians.
